Congestion in Port Sudan results in Vessel Delay Surcharge

Thu, Mar 15, 2018
Port productivity hampered by lack of handling equipment and changes in tax regulation

Lack of handling equipment is affecting the dwell time of vessels in the port. Reportedly, there are also changes in tax regulations by the Sudanese authorities, which are slowing down the imports. This increases the container population in the port and reduces the terminal productivity further.

Implementation of a Vessel Delay Surcharge has become inevitable for WEC Lines. Consequently, for all shipments bound for Port Sudan on/after 1st of April 2018, a VDS of EUR 100/TEU applies.

Ozean will continue to monitor the situation. As soon as the situation improves, you will find the update on your most trusted shipping news page http://www.ozean.ch/page/news
